You build a draft on nights like this. Tyrone Tracy Jr. had no business being available in the 216th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. With cornerback, linebacker and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.
They are betting Eboigbe proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 26 they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
A slide stopped in pick No. 87, with Blake Fisher worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Blake Corum at Round 3, Pick 29 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and pick 110 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jalen McMillan in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Justin Eboigbe in the 129th pick leaves cornerback, linebacker and other spots for later.
A clean, defensible pick in the 157th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kitan Oladapo. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at the 216th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
