The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
On value alone, Magee makes the weekend a net positive. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on D.J. James in the 67th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in the 87th pick with a little surplus value in Christian Mahogany. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Davis slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Travis at slot 141 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a linebacker like Ty'Ron Hopper reach pick No. 174 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Jalen Berger went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Magee at the 245th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
