You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Speights that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 3rd overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In the 7th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 24 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Tyler Davis in pick No. 103, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with LaDarius Henderson worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Emani Bailey at pick 212 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Omar Speights at No. 245 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
