When the story of this class is written, it opens with KJ Jefferson at slot 186, a reach of 101 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Everything downstream of Shedeur Sanders depends on Shedeur Sanders, and the building knows it.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
In pick No. 24 they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Omarion Hampton at slot 44 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Tyler Warren in No. 76 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sebastian Castro in the 148th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in the 167th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to pick 168, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Davison Igbinosun, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, KJ Jefferson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Batty in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; J.J. Weaver in pick No. 248 says they were not listening. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
