Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
So much rides on Carson Beck that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
The Gordon II steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If Hairston pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Deone Walker at Round 2, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Restrepo in No. 68. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Earnest Greene III in the 94th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 101st overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Maxwell Hairston at pick No. 126 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Damien Martinez was the payoff at pick 158. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Eugene Asante in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 222nd overall pick, where Will Sheppard graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
