You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Zion Logue in No. 244.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On value alone, Suamataia makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the 24th overall pick they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at pick 56. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at slot 87 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 112 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 174 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ryan Flournoy slid further than he should have, and slot 216 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Trevin Wallace went about where he belonged in the 233rd pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Zion Logue at pick 244, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
