The rest of the league will want that one back. Caelen Carson tumbling to the Cowboys in Round 5, Pick 38 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Chop Robinson at the 56th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Kool-Aid McKinstry here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, MarShawn Lloyd in the 103rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Caelen Carson at No. 174 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Williams at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jordan Magee slipping to pick 233 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trevin Wallace slid further than he should have, and pick No. 244 is lovely value for the linebacker. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
