The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Rosemy-Jacksaint value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 23 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Melton at Round 3, Pick 24 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Trey Benson still on the board at the 105th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in the 110th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in No. 129, with Tyler Davis worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Kitan Oladapo at No. 174 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They will replay Ainias Smith at pick 177 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Jaylan Ford in the 216th overall pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in slot 233, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Sheridan Jones at Round 7, Pick 24 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
