The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Anthony value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 8 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 24, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in the 173rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Justin Rogers. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Michael Wiley higher than the 213th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Jordan Magee was the payoff at slot 231. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Daijahn Anthony still on the board at pick 242. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
