The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Guyton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
In pick 24 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They let Tyler Guyton come to them and pounced at No. 56. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malachi Corley slipping to Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
DeWayne Carter at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in slot 124, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 174th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jalen Berger at the 212th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Matthew Jones at the 245th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
