The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Put together, it is a D.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mustapha.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Trotter Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 29 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 56th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylen Wright in pick 73 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach slot 174 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malik Mustapha in Round 6, Pick 41, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tayvion Robinson in No. 233 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trevin Wallace in the 244th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Kimani Vidal in slot 249, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
