The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
However the rest shakes out, Means at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at slot 56. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in the 87th overall pick, with Cooper Beebe worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 27, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on MarShawn Lloyd, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in the 173rd pick: Khristian Boyd for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 188 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 213 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Jowon Briggs in the 222nd overall pick, and that is fine. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Somehow Bub Means was still sitting there in pick 231, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jalen Green at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
