The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
That Dixon pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Justin Fields deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

In pick 9 they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Need was not the driver here.
Nice patience on Kamari Lassiter, who had no business lasting to No. 56. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at the 118th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Anthony Gould slid further than he should have, and the 152nd pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marist Liufau at Round 5, Pick 38 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Williams at pick No. 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 233rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Dixon still on the board at slot 244. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
