Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Johnson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Reaching for McCarthy left real value on the table behind him.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Marvin Harrison Jr. at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In No. 27 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 56th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kris Abrams-Draine is a better player than pick No. 87 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Gabriel Murphy in Round 3, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in slot 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Andru Phillips was still sitting there in the 136th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 173 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Emani Bailey at slot 216 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cornelius Johnson in pick 233 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Keaton Bills at the 244th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
