Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. If McCarthy pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Greenfield at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 18 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 24 they get a passer to set the clock by, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in pick No. 43. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Payton Wilson come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, T.J. Tampa at the 58th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the 87th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in No. 88 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jalen McMillan in Round 4, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Tyler Davis in Round 4, Pick 8; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 136 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Fair-plus on Dillon Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathan Thomas is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Tayvion Robinson in No. 233; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Garret Greenfield in pick 244 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
