The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They banked enough surplus on Chambers to cover a lot of smaller sins.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
In the 9th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in No. 68, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 113 with a little surplus value in Mekhi Wingo. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marist Liufau. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Anthony Gould is a better player than the 173rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Davis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steele Chambers in No. 213 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tayvion Robinson in the 231st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tanner McLachlan at pick 242 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
