Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Zion Logue. He came off 42 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 23 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
In pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Trey Benson at No. 56 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Khyree Jackson a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Pratt in the 108th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Jefferson in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Jalyx Hunt in slot 159, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Walter Rouse at pick No. 174. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Jase McClellan still on the board at pick 216. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Ryan Watts at Round 7, Pick 10, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Bub Means at the 233rd pick that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Zion Logue in the 244th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
