The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Benjamin Morrison fell into Round 3, Pick 7. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force, outstanding value to boot.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Barion Brown. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Benjamin Morrison all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Josh Conerly Jr. in No. 90, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Collin Oliver at pick No. 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in the 154th pick with a little surplus value in Jaydn Ott. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jonah Coleman at Round 6, Pick 26 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
