Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Tanor Bortolini. He came off 67 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value.
In the 23rd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a go-to option on the outside, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Trey Benson in the 56th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 87 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylan Ford this early at slot 174. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Sam Hartman in slot 216 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Zion Logue at No. 233 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ryan Watts slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
