After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at Round 1, Pick 18, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Darius Robinson in No. 35 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen McMillan. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Khyree Jackson is a better player than pick 104 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jaylin Simpson went about where he belonged in pick No. 139. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kitan Oladapo at slot 152 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They let Nathaniel Watson come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
