Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will need Suamataia to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Suamataia. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 68th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 103 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at the 137th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Erick All in Round 6, Pick 5 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Kendall Milton in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Dominique Hampton went about where he belonged in the 231st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
