The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Matt Lee a full 42 spots early.
On value alone, Thomas Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in the 28th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 24 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Benson at No. 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, DeWayne Carter in pick No. 128, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Marist Liufau, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Grayson Murphy at pick 160 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A real head-scratcher, Justin Rogers in pick No. 174 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trevin Wallace in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matt Lee at slot 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Daijahn Anthony in the 244th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
