The real work happened on the phones. The Rams fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
Landing McCoy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will need Allar to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that.
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Gennings Dunker slipping to Round 2, Pick 31 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ted Hurst at No. 93 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Kobi Lane at pick 101, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Drew Allar in slot 144; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Cameron Ball slid further than he should have, and the 207th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zavion Thomas. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Diego Pavia in the 251st pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bryce Foster in No. 252 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
