Washington Commanders

The Commanders answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If Wilson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, King at that price is a win they earned.

In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the 7th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
In slot 23 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 44
Chris Braswell in pick 36 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 33
A tidy little value on Troy Franklin in the 40th pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 84
They paid a round early for Blake Corum in Round 3, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 100 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Cedric Gray in pick 106 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
Tommy Eichenberg at the 139th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Kalen King · CB · rank 139
Kalen King slid further than he should have, and the 152nd overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 244
A wild overpay on Josh Proctor in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
