Start where it matters. The Patriots took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The cost of the Hartman reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.J. McCarthy. The roster fit checks out.
Fair-plus on Adonai Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Patrick Paul in No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
