If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
However the rest shakes out, Bullock at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The veteran additions, Larry Ogunjobi chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Chop Robinson and all.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in pick No. 36: Chop Robinson for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in slot 37, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Keon Coleman in the 51st overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at the 67th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ruke Orhorhoro. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 14 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Melton at No. 84 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Calen Bullock at the 105th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Brenden Rice slid further than he should have, and pick No. 110 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kalen King at slot 140 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on AJ Barner in the 178th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Javion Cohen come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
JD Bertrand at pick 225 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 33, with Josh Proctor worth more than the price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
