Washington Commanders

The Commanders turned the phones into found money: A.

The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A to cap it.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Stover. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
Dallas Turner in Round 1, Pick 16 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Amarius Mims at pick 36 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 31
They let Tyler Guyton come to them and pounced at pick No. 40. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 52
A reach on Xavier Legette in No. 42; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 51
They read the board right and Mike Sainristil was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 77
Andru Phillips in the 78th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Jermaine Burton · WR · rank 79
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jermaine Burton. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 88
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at the 86th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 83
Cade Stover is a better player than slot 100 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 119
No edge and no loss on Cedric Gray in the 118th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 136
Nehemiah Pritchett at Round 5, Pick 3 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 152
Mason McCormick at pick 152 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
