Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 159 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 23. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Rucker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Danielle Hunter by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Circle this one: Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 63 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Darien Porter at pick 76 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tai Felton at the 94th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaimon Rucker in No. 95, miles early. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They read the board right and Denzel Burke was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darius Alexander in the 128th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Charles Grant was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 31, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Nick Nash went about where he belonged in slot 149. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Emery Jones Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Seth McLaughlin at slot 174 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mitchell Evans in No. 204, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quincy Riley at pick No. 211 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jack Kiser in the 219th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Bhayshul Tuten at the 239th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dante Trader Jr. at pick 246 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Jermari Harris, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
