The rest of the league had time to spare on Jack Westover; the Chargers did not wait, grabbing him 67 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 33. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Tyler Lockett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In the end it comes back to Olumuyiwa Fashanu, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that.
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Bralen Trice slid further than he should have, and slot 69 is lovely value for the edge rusher. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khyree Jackson in the 81st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in pick 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Davis at the 130th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Magee is a better player than pick No. 231 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached into another round for Jack Westover, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
