Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They are betting Okie-Anoma proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On value alone, Suamataia makes the weekend a net positive.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 68th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Kingsley Suamataia slipping to pick 74 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Ben Sinnott at the 103rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Marist Liufau. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reach on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in pick No. 180; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Jaylan Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 18. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They talked themselves into Eyabi Okie-Anoma at Round 7, Pick 11, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
