The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Every board in the league had Logue lower, and that gap is the story. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 34th pick, where Troy Fautanu graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ja'Lynn Polk in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Matt Goncalves at par in pick No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in the 130th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Nehemiah Pritchett went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Kamal Hadden went about where he belonged in No. 166. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 182nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Zion Logue in pick No. 229 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
