Washington Commanders

The Commanders answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Every board in the league had Bullock lower, and that gap is the story. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
In No. 4 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In the 27th pick they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 37
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 35th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 41
They took Ja'Tavion Sanders at par in Round 2, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 42
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 60
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 67 with a little surplus value in Kamari Lassiter. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 88
Calen Bullock at slot 78 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 109
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in pick 100, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 102
Ben Sinnott in No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 136
Nehemiah Pritchett in pick No. 139 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 152
No edge and no loss on Mason McCormick in the 152nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
