Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Nehemiah Pritchett got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at No. 167. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Jonathan Greenard deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

Olumuyiwa Fashanu at No. 11 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
In pick No. 23 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, J.J. McCarthy in the 34th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cade Stover in Round 3, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Zak Zinter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in slot 123: Will Shipley for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Beau Brade at the 137th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
They did well to land Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
