After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That Hunt pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 23 they get a long-term answer under center, outstanding value to boot.
They did well to land Ladd McConkey in slot 36, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Christian Haynes is a better player than pick No. 67 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaden Hicks slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 14 is lovely value for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Andru Phillips at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Erick All at No. 139 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jalyx Hunt at the 152nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
