Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent slot 184 on Nathan Thomas, a name the board had a full 44 spots lower. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Trotter Jr.. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in slot 59. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was still sitting there in No. 90, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Will Shipley at par in Round 3, Pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 112 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
AJ Barner at pick 148 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Dwight McGlothern in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nathan Thomas at the 184th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Javontae Jean-Baptiste, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Keaton Bills at pick 241, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
