Thirty-one other rooms let Luke McCaffrey slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the Round 5 slot. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Hampton left real value on the table behind him. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

In No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. More want than need.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 38 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Dominique Hampton in the 216th overall pick says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
