If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Anthony Belton at Round 5, Pick 11 is 100 spots clear of where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Skattebo falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The veteran additions, Micah Parsons chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Ashton Jeanty slipping to No. 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Charles Grant in the 41st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Jihaad Campbell in slot 44, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at Round 3, Pick 5 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Burch in the 77th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Savion Williams at par in pick No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a linebacker like Barrett Carter reach pick 143 and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
