The rest of the league will want that one back. Deontae Lawson tumbling to the Cowboys in the 186th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Igbinosun pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In No. 8 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Barrett Carter at the 148th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sonny Styles in slot 168, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Deontae Lawson in No. 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in the 209th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
