Miami Dolphins

Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Martinez: D-.

by technikz · 2025 NFL Draft · 13 picks · 6 steals · 3 reaches
Value B
Need B-
Trades F
Future B-

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Will Sheppard at slot 252, a reach of 58 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Martinez. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Dolphins indulged a want in Winston Jr. while a need in edge rusher and interior defensive lineman stayed open.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Kelvin Banks Jr. · OT · rank 10
In the 13th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 22
Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 48 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Mason Taylor · TE · rank 82
A tidy little value on Mason Taylor in No. 87, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Will Howard · QB · rank 137
A big swing on Will Howard at slot 94, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.34 · Pick 98 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 94
Dylan Fairchild in slot 98 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.1 · Pick 102 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 70
Quinshon Judkins in pick No. 102 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.13 · Pick 114 · Jake Majors · C · rank 107
They did well to land Jake Majors in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R4.32 · Pick 133 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 104
A want over a need in the 133rd overall pick: Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
R5.12 · Pick 149 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 184
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 149 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.17 · Pick 154 · Ryan Fitzgerald · PK · rank 117
Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 154 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.21 · Pick 196 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 134
The board fumbled Jay Higgins all the way to the 196th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.15 · Pick 231 · Damien Martinez · RB · rank 162
Damien Martinez at Round 7, Pick 15 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
R7.36 · Pick 252 · Will Sheppard · WR · rank 310
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Will Sheppard. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
