The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Kamari Ramsey, the No. 78 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 99 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They are betting Lawrence proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Omar Cooper Jr. at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malachi Lawrence in pick No. 36 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jake Slaughter in No. 76 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kamari Ramsey in the 99th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A wild overpay on Dametrious Crownover in slot 127, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joe Royer in the 138th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
