Washington Commanders

A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a B weekend for the Commanders.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Getting Beebe where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 6
Jayden Daniels in pick 5 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 26
Graham Barton at Round 2, Pick 4 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
Fair-plus on Adonai Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 35
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 40th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 67
Nice patience on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who had no business lasting to the 78th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roger Rosengarten. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
Justin Eboigbe at slot 139 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 162
Value said wait; Xavier Thomas in pick 140 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.16 · Pick 152 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 136
The board had Jarrian Jones higher than the 152nd overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 266
They reached a country mile for Matthew Jones at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
