The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Taylor III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Keon Coleman is a better player than the 57th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nice patience on Patrick Paul, who had no business lasting to pick No. 79. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Benson at the 87th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Leonard Taylor III in pick 98 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Grayson Murphy in No. 174 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Ryan Flournoy at Round 6, Pick 41 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Magee at the 220th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Trevin Wallace went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 13. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Proctor at the 244th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Sundell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
