The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
On value alone, Simpson makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They will need Jefferson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a long-term answer under center. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at pick No. 130 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Hart at the 145th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in No. 157, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 166 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in slot 179, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They did well to land Kenny Logan Jr. in Round 7, Pick 7, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
