There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Jowon Briggs a full 29 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Robinson at that price is a win they earned.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Darius Robinson at No. 55 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Luke McCaffrey was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tanor Bortolini in pick 184 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in slot 198, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Dominique Hampton at the 226th pick that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jowon Briggs in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
