There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for Gino Garcia, 54 picks ahead of schedule.
The Marks steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
In slot 24 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Elijah Arroyo in pick No. 69, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Charles Grant at the Round 4 slot is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cobee Bryant in Round 5, Pick 6, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Woody Marks at the 217th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Cam Horsley in Round 7, Pick 4; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
