The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Javontae Jean-Baptiste went at slot 174, a good 43 picks before the board was ready.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
