Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick No. 170 on Kyle Monangai, a name most had 34 spots down the list.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Johnson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Myles Garrett deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

They paid sticker price for Abdul Carter in the 2nd overall pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 1: Nick Emmanwori for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.

You do not let a wide receiver like Tez Johnson reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Lander Barton at pick No. 150 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Kyle Monangai in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
