Thirty-one other rooms let Kyle Kennard slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at pick No. 249. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ashton Jeanty at the 44th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 25 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jahdae Barron at pick No. 67 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nick Emmanwori in pick 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jack Bech reach No. 99 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Savion Williams in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Walter Nolen in the 110th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in No. 112, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at pick No. 138 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quarterback of that caliber at slot 139 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Darien Porter in the 170th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Shough still on the board at the 172nd pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Wyatt Milum at pick 174 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for T.J. Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Demetrius Knight Jr. all the way to the 211th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Kyle Kennard in pick No. 249, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
