New England Patriots

The Patriots let Moore fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Rod Moore, the No. 142 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 8 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Shand reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Tetairoa McMillan · WR · rank 5
In pick No. 3 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 33
Tate Ratledge at pick 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 48
Colston Loveland at Round 3, Pick 3 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Kaleb Johnson · RB · rank 41
Kaleb Johnson in the 78th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Malachi Moore · S · rank 75
Steal is underselling it; Malachi Moore at No. 107 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.4 · Pick 142 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 85
They barely believed it either: Deontae Lawson still on the board at the 142nd overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · Logan Jones · C · rank 175
Logan Jones in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Rod Moore · S · rank 142
Rod Moore in slot 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.22 · Pick 236 · Paris Shand · DE · rank 308
They reached into another round for Paris Shand, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
