The real work happened on the phones. The Eagles fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
Landing Cohen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Trotter Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
The cost of the Green reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 18 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 53rd pick leaves wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Renardo Green in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarrian Jones at pick 160. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Mason McCormick was the payoff at No. 170. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 171, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kamal Hadden at slot 178 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Javion Cohen at No. 189 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
